LPA to induce rains over PH

- By ELLALYN B. DE VERA

A low pressure area (LPA) embedded in the inter tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring light to moderate rains over the Visayas and Mindanao, and parts of Luzon this today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA located the LPA at 240 kilometers east of Maasin, Southern Leyte yesterday morning. The LPA, however, has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression.

Even with the lack of tropical cyclones, water level at Angat Dam in Bulacan is gradually increasing due to isolated rains over the watershed area.

As of Wednesday morning, Angat Dam’s water level is at 189.56 meters, which is 0.29 meters higher than Tuesday’s 189.27 meters.

Today, cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will persist in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

PAGASA said light to moderate winds coming from the northeast to southeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country.

It advised fishing boat operators that coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the archipelago.
