Sandigan buying time to rule on Napoles bail bid

- By JEFFREY G. DAMICOG

The Sandiganbayan Third Division yesterday did not issue a resolution whether or not to grant bail to alleged pork barrel scam brains Janet Lim Napoles.

Instead, the Third Division, which is handling the plunder case of Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile and his co-accused including Napoles, asked the Supreme Court for an extension in the two-day deadline rule to give them more time to decide on her bail petition.

Third Division Clerk of Court Lawyer Dennis Pulma told reporters yesterday that the court sent a letter to the Supreme Court en banc through Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno that sought for an extension of 10 working days or until September 30 to resolve the bail petition.

Pulma cited that the reasons why court sought for the extension is because of “the voluminous records or evidence presented by the parties, the number of witnesses who testified and also the length of testimonies of the said witnesses.”
