Aquino cites women in upholding honest, good governance
President Aquino lauded yesterday the role of women in upholding good governance and expanding economic development as he underscored upholding gender equality and women’s rights at the APEC private-public dialogue on women and the economy.
“I believe it is intrinsic to our society: We see women as superior in many aspects, including prudent budgeting, and focusing on the advancement of the family as a whole,” Aquino said at the APEC Women and the Economy 2015 Fora yesterday at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
Aquino noted the female members of his Cabinet who have shown integrity and capacity to serve in the public sector. “Our administration is an excellent example of this belief put into action. Over the course of our term, I have appointed a good number of women of unquestionable moral standing to key positions in government, so that they may enact much needed reforms in the various sectors,” Aquino said.
The President cited female government officials like Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales, Sec. Leila de Lima of the Department of Justice, Sec. Dinky Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Sec. Janette Garin of the Department of Health, Sec. Lilia de Lima of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, Commissioner Kim Henares of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, and former head of the Commission on Audit Grace Pulido-Tan. (Madel R.
