Orani Water District’s loan questioned

ORANI, Bataan — Consumers in the service area of the Orani Water District (OWD) here are urging the Local Waterworks Utility Administration (LWUA) to look into what they claim is a questionable 100-million loan by the OWD management.

Mayor Benjie Serrano Jr. confirmed yesterday that his office continues to receive complaints from consumers here opposing the said gargantuan loan and “outside” project of the OWD.

He said the OWD is installing a large pipe all the way to nearby Samal town in what appears to be an expansion project of the water company.

However, consumers are up in arms against the OWD embarking on such a project despite the alleged poor services it has been rendering to its local consumers, the mayor said.

Serrano said the OWD has also been the subject of complaints because of the inconvenience to traffic caused by its diggings on the streets of the town, which have been undertaken without consultation and coordination with local leaders.
