Ex-boxing champ Tuñacao hacked, in critical condition

-

CEBU CITY — Former World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight champion Malcolm Tuñacao is in critical condition at a Cebu City hospital after he was hacked with a bolo by his live-in partner last Wednesday inside their residence in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.

Tuñacao, 37, remained under observation at the intensive care unit of Chong Hua Hospital as of presstime.

Tuñacao, known during his fighting days as “Eagle Eye”, captured the WBC flyweight champion in 2000.

Police said Tunacao was asleep at around 6 a.m. when his live-in partner, Jessica Grace Tiu, 39, allegedly attacked him in a jealous rage. He sustained several wounds in the body.

Tiu’s 18-year-old daughter from a previous relationship reportedly brought Tuñacao to hospital.

Tiu, who was detained at the Mandaue City Police Station 5 in Barangay Opao, said she attacked Tuñacao but had no intention to kill him.

She said she suspected Tuñacao of having an affair with a Japanese woman he met while in Japan.

PO3 Juanito Bulahan said the couple quarreled last Tuesday afternoon over Tuñacao’s alleged affair.

Bulahan said Tiu reportedly overheard the boxer talking on the phone about marrying the other woman.

Tiu, who sustained bruises in her arms, was taken to the Mandaue City Hospital before she was detained. (PNA)
