An ending and a beginning

Alot can happen in two years, especially in show business. For child star Ryzza Mae Dizon, her meteoric rise to fame hinged on a few lucky breaks.

The young star first became the toast of studio audiences on “Eat Bulaga!” thanks to her cha cha dance routines that got them on their feet. Soon enough, her career on the Kapuso network heated up further when she co-starred on “Vampire Ang Daddy Ko.” Later, she landed her own morning talk show, “The Ryzza Mae Show,” with no less than Susan Roces as first guest.

“The Ryzza Mae” show lasted two years, bowing out last Friday.

“Malungkot po kasi ’yun po ’yung unang show ko eh. Du’n din po ako mas nakilala. Dahil po sa show may nagpapa- autograph sa akin sa school,” she said.

But Ryzza, known to her followers as Aling Maliit, does not have time to be too sad. Today, her new show, “The Ryzza Mae Show Presents... Princess In The Palace,” airs it pilot episode and, well, things just keep getting better for her.

It’s her first-ever TV drama series and Ryzza is excited about it. She plays the foundling adopted by the President of the country, no less, and a woman at that. President Leonora Clarissa Jacinto is played by Eula Valdez.

“Medyo mahirap po kasi andami ko pong actingan na iyakan eh, mas sanay po akong magpatawa sa (dating) show ko eh,” Ryzza said. She recalled doing drama acting in the Lenten special of “Eat Bulaga!” but noted the difference. “Kasi eto talagang series. Matagal mong gagawin ’yung show,” she said.

Though it is a challenge for her to cry in the series, Ryzza gets inspiration from her past.

“’Yung mga malulungkot po na nangyari sa akin or sa family ko and kapag wala na pong adobo,” she said, laughing.

What made this task easier, she said, was working with veteran co-stars Aiza Seguerra, Eula Valdez, Boots Anson-Rodrigo, Ces Quesada and Dante Rivero.

“Medyo nahihiya pa po ako sa kanila kasi ang galing nilang mag-acting and matagal na sila sa industry pero palagi nila ako tinutulungan,” Ryzza said. She is happy to be working with Aiza anew, noting that they still have a close relationship. They previously worked together on “Eat Bulaga!” and in “My Little Bossings.”

“Chill lang (kami),” she said. “Sanay na po kasi nakasama ko na siya. Kaya sinasabi na lang niya sa akin na enjoyin ko na lang daw po ginagawa ko.”

For Aiza, working with Ryzza again was a different kind of challenge for her, but she welcomed the experience being a former child star herself.

“We will be doing this together and (I’m) happy na it’s a different experience. Eto mas mahaba na and mas marami na ’yung dynamics ng characters namin,” she said.

Concept of the series

Director Mike Tuviera said they conceptualized the series to give Ryzza a show that will open a new career path to her.

“Para sa pag-level up niya, ’yung hindi lang siya sa hosting magaling. Kasi dito sa series, halos ginawa niya lahat…” he said.

Mike said he is proud of Ryzza being so professional even at a young age.

“Hindinghindi ’yan darating sa set na hindi memorize ’yung script niya, tapos palaging nakikinig kapag nag-eexplain ako ng blockings,” he said. “The Ryzza Mae Show Presents… Princess In The Palace” is about a girl who finds herself in the middle of a crazy world where she would touch the lives of every person she meets through “pabebe” moods and “hugot” lines. The show is at 11:30 a.m. on GMA-7. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)

Young star Ryzza Mae headlines a new drama series today where she gets her inspiration to cry on camera from, she jokes, ‘’yung mga malulungkot po na nangyari sa akin or sa family ko and kapag wala na pong adobo.’
