Grace Poe vs Roxas and Binay in 2016 polls

- By FRED M. LOBO

SENATOR Grace Poe confirms her run for president in 2016, vowing to step up the drive against graft and corruption in the country.

I want to bring about a better Philippines, she declares – like her father FPJ.

*** Poe bares her political plans at the University of the Philippines (UP) Bahay ng Alumni in Diliman, Quezon City, joined by her supporters from various sectors and groups, including show business.

Supporters to vote for her. Showbiz people to entertain her voters.

*** “No one person or group has a monopoly on a straight path advocacy. President Aquino has done a lot to prosecute those who were corrupt, and I am thankful for what he has done because it brought back people’s trust to an honest leader,” Poe says.

Upholding “Sraight Path “and thanking PNOY just the same.–apparently a good campaign strategy.

*** Malacanang immediately says it respects Poe’s decision to run as an independent candidate.

It will have a hard time though finding a replacement for the VP slot.

*** Grace says her decision was borne out of her desire to fulfill her father’s wish for a better Philippines. Like father, like daughter. The senator adds that she plans to work for the passage of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill, a key anti-corruption measure that was not passed under President Aquino’s watch. FOI? Pwede ako diyan, she says.

*** In her launching speech, Poe lays down at least 20 reforms in various agencies and sectors of Philippine society which she plans to push should she win the presidential elections in 2016.

Twenty shades of “grey” to be tackled by GP and VP Chiz.

*** Poe vows to pursue the campaign against corruption, a drive started by President Aquino.

“I will hold the corrupt responsible for their acts, whether they are my friends or foes. But this aspiration should not be controlled by select people or party, but by every Filipino,” she declares.

***

“In order to enhance transparency in government, we will pass the FOI bill at the soonest time possible. That’s our weapon against corruption,” she vows.

Thinking aloud, thinking ahead..

***

Poe also promises to pursue a stronger stance on the West Philippine Sea issue through peaceful means, as well as strengthen the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Another lady commander in chief marching in like Cory and GMA?

***

Sen. Poe also vows to pursue reforms in the country’s tax system, and to ensure taxpayers are paid back through quality government services.

Yes to lower taxes, people agree.

***

Poe also promises to intensify the fight against illegal drugs and criminality.

Welcome to a lady of steel, her fans cry.

*** But politics is “war” so understandably watching her closely now are equally qualified presidential rivals DILG Sec. Mar Roxas and Vice President Jejomar Binay.

May the best candidate win! May the Filipino people triumph!
