- By FRANCIS T. WAKEFIELD

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has released the list of 20 barangays in the city considered as its most crime-prone areas.

The list, according to Chief Supt. Edgardo G. Tinio, QCPD director, was based on the number of crimes committed from January to August this year.

Tinio said that based on their Index Crime Data, Brgy. Socorro, which is under the jurisdiction of the Cubao Police Station 7 (PS-7), is ranked No. 1 on the list with 422 crimes committed.

Number 2 on the list is Brgy. Batasan Hills which is under the jurisdiction of the QCPD Batasan Police Station 6 (PS-6), with 321 crimes committed, while listed third is Brgy. Bahay Toro which is under the jurisdiction of the Talipapa Police Station 3 (PS-3), with 251 crimes committed.

Rounding up the list are Barangays Bagong Pagasa (235); Greater Lagro (234); Commonwealth (196); Holy Spirit (177); Novaliches Proper (177); Old Balara (174); Talipapa (164); South Triangle (140); North Fairview (130); Kaligayahan (128); Tandang Sora (118); Pasong Tamo (118); San Bartolome (98); Gulod (96); Kaunlaran (88); Ramon Magsaysay (87) and Tatalon (86).

“Ang talagang major contributor ng crime eh Brgy. Socorro and Brgy. Batasan Hills. Isang reason kaya mataas ang insidente ng krimen eh dahil na rin sa population at we all know naman na sa areas na ito eh maraming informal settlers (The major contributors to crime are Barangays Socorro and Batasan Hills. One of the reasons why the incidence of crime is high is not actually the population, but the presence of informal settlers),” he said.

“Ang nangungunang krimen eh theft talaga (The crime that is committed most is theft),” Tinio added.

Crimes Against Persons include murder, homicide, physical injuries, and rape while Crimes Against Property include robbery, theft, carnapping and motorcycle theft.

Tinio said the QCPD will intensify its anti-crime operations in anticipation of an increase in crime-related incidents with the entry of the “ber” months or from September to December.

Tinio said to combat a possible upsurge of crimes especially robbery/holdup and theft incidents due to the Holiday season, the 3,000- plus strong QCPD force will conduct more patrol operations on city streets and around barangays.
