Taguig tops NCR cluster in NAT
The City of Taguig ranked No. 1 among the National Capital Region’s (NCR) Big Schools Cluster in the recent National Achievement Test (NAT).
The NAT is a test administered to graduating students from elementary and secondary public schools.
For the second straight year, Taguig City topped the list of cities under the Big Cities Cluster.
“When we took the reins of the city in 2010, Taguig was a bottom dweller at No. 13 in the NAT rankings in NCR. We said we will invest heavily in education and try to improve our performance for the following year,” Mayor Lani Cayetano said.
She said that the recent improvement in the NAT ranking was an “answered prayer.”
“I distinctly remember that Taguig improved its rank from No. 13 to No. 7 and to No. 3 in a very short span of time. And I distinctly remember saying that we will aim for No. 1. Last year we were No. 1 in the Big Schools Cluster. And this year, I am very glad we made it as the overall No. 1 in NCR, both in the Grade 6 and fourth year levels. This is an answered prayer for us,” Cayetano said.
The results were confirmed by the Department of Education (DepEd)NCR in a formal announcement recently.
George Tizon, DepEd TaPat (TaguigPateros) administrator said that the results were released to them by the DepEd NCR and they indeed showed that students from public schools in Taguig posted the highest score in the NAT.
The NAT measures the competency of students in five key subjects while performance of each city is measured through a Mean Percentage Score (MPS).
Taguig students achieved an overall MPS of 68.32 and 57.11 ranking, ahead of Quezon City, Manila, Pasig City, and Makati City.
