Sengled has an interesting line of smart LED light bulbs

-

The concept of the smart light bulb has expanded beyond just a smarter way of producing light. For example, I wrote about one in the past that actually had speakers integrated into it. This means that you have it play music by connecting a device to it through Bluetooth. This is a nice idea if you prefer speakers in a room to be hidden.

The company Sengled has expanded the possibilities of the smart light bulb even further with its interesting line of products, all of which are dimmable LED’s. The Sengled Pulse is their version with the Bluetooth speakers. You could connect your music devices to up to 6 of these bulbs at the same time. While the Pulse must be paired with at least one other bulb, there’s also another similar product called the Pulse Solo that acts as standalone speakers.

The Sengled Boost is an LED light bulb that’s also a WiFi range extender. Just plug it into your socket and connect it to your router. It extends your WiFi range by up to 100 feet. The interesting thing about this is that you can use even more of these bulbs to extend your range even further. Place them strategically and your Sengled Boost bulbs become a chain relaying your signal from one bulb to the next.

Perhaps the most interesting product in the Sengled line is the Sengled Snap. It has a wide array of security related features rolled into one bulb. It has a webcam, speakers, microphone, and even a motion sensor. You can stream the video the webcam takes into your smartphone or tablet. The webcam even has facial recognition and geo-fencing technology, which lets you know if there’s a stranger in the house and can tell if a family member has entered or left.

Who knows what else the smart light bulbs of the future will be able to do? Right now they’re already pretty amazing. (Angelo Fernandez)
