ATM robbery in Quezon City arrested
Solutions Philippines.
Chief Insp. Rodelio Marcelo, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), in Camp Karingal, said that Bolong was arrested by his men last Monday night at Wells Fargo Fort Mckinley in Taguig City.
The arresting team’s leader, Insp. Alan Dela Cruz, said that his team coordinated with Bolong’s employer, G4S Cash Solutions Philippines, in making the arrest.
Marcelo said the suspect was traced through background checks of present and former security personnel of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), especially those assigned as security escorts to the bank’s ATM maintenance and money loader personnel.
The investigators obtained a photograph of Bolong whom two BPI bank technicians positively identified as the same person who poked a handgun at them and took away the cash from the bank’s ATM before fleeing with three cohorts waiting on a motorcycle.
Dela Cruz also found in their investigation that the kiosk housing the ATM had been destroyed by unidentified persons so that technicians could easily open the machine.
He said while the two technicians were fixing the machine, four robbers wearing crash helmets and surgical masks took the money.
Dela Cruz said Bolong was taken to the CIDU headquarters in Camp Karingal for further investigation, pending the filing of appropriate charges against him before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
A case of robbery in band will be filed against him, said Tinio.
After the daring robbery, Tinio called for a dialogue with the Bank Security Management Association last Friday, together with Police Station Commanders, at the Bulwagang Amoranto at the Quezon City Hall, to tighten bank security measures and procedures.
Tinio commended the CIDU for the swift solution of the case. (With a report from Chantal Nabong, trainee)
