A mom to go home to

- By DR. JESUS P. ESTANISLAO

IN addition to having a great accomplice and companion for life, we each need a loving and caring mom we can always go home to. One mom who never dies and who never goes away is Mary: She is the mother of us all.

For anyone with a vision to realize, Mary is a most prized inheritance: She was given to each of us by her Son as He was dying on the cross. We can claim her, and own her as a mother.

Here is a testimony of one who often goes to Mary as a child in need would naturally go to his or her mom: “You have never failed me. I may not have gotten everything I prayed for through your intercession. But I always got full assurance each time I come to you. You always got me far more, and much better, than what I prayed for. I should have known: You know much better, and you are capable of much more than what I can ever dream of and wish for.”

As a good mother, Mary is “anxious” for the success of her children. She looks out for opportunities by which we can do better and become even better. Again, a testimony: “You have given me the opportunity to do the right thing, at the right time, and at the right place all throughout my life. The twists and turns of life and work have not always been happy and easy. But you took care so that for every door that closes on me, another one opens up.”

As mother of the Redeemer and having been given to us as mother, her crowning achievement is simple and straightforward: To win for us our final success in achieving all the personal visions we sought to realize all throughout our life, and to get us over to her company and that of her Son. This has given the person giving his testimony all the assurance he needs. Thus: “All I can do is to initiate all this grand, wideranging work, such that a base is laid, upon which many others can build. The most reassuring fact remains: You will always be around, and you will arrange for all the work you have inspired and helped me to do to bear abundant fruits in the years ahead. And as I continue to entertain hopes and dreams. I leave them completely in your hands. I know that you can take care of them much better than I ever can. With the power you have over your Son, win for me a final grace, that of persevering up to the very end, and of living the rest of my life with no other love and attachment than the love I owe you and your Son.”

Many of us may not fully realize it, but as we pursue our personal vision, we can (and should) bank on two irreplaceable assets we have been gifted with. First, we have Jesus as friend and constant companion. Second, we have his mother, whom he gave to us to become our very own mother as well.

And we know what Jesus can do. We also know what moms can do: Any mom can do everything that is genuinely good for us.
