Paintings of Imao and Sanso up for sale at Manila Hotel

- By SARA GRACE C. FOJAS

Abdulmari Imao’s Sarimanok Series and Juvel Sanso’s Glorious Beginning are joining a private sale being held at the Manila Hotel that runs until October 28, 2015 for the benefit of the Philippine Red Cross.

Imao, a National Artist for Sculpture, is known for his sarimanok paintings, a theme close to his heart and is integral in the culture of Mindanao.

Sanso, on the other hand, is considered “one of the truly great modernist artists of today.” He is known for

his black and white paintings that attract the “emotional, psychological, and cerebral reactions from the viewer.”

The private sale is a prelude to the launching of the book Filipino Artists in Their Studios, a compilation of 75 portraits of artists by Pinggot Zulueta and articles edited by Isabel C. de Leon that came out in the Arts and Culture section of Manila Bulletin Lifestyle under Artist at Work.

Other paintings featured in the exhibit are: The Stranger by Marcel Antonio, They Were Hoping for a Good Weather by Benjie Cabangis, Trees are Made of Butterflies III by Ross Capili, Last Bite by Salvador Ching, Madonna by Gig de Pio, Magnificat by Mario de Rivera, Answered Prayer by Fil Dela Cruz, Serene Color Burst by Ramon Diaz, Fish and Red Flowers by Edgar Doctor, KilayKo by Raul Lebajo, Your Song by Carlo Magno, Triumph in Amber by Ramon Orlina, Jeep Jam by Pablo Baen Santos, Mind and Time by Roy Veneracion, and From Watching Skies by Nestor Olarte Vinluan.

There will be a pre-selling of the book for 3,990 with free delivery in Metro Manila during the exhibit. The book will be available soon in selected National Bookstore and Fullybooked stores.

The exhibit is a project of the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation, in cooperation with Galerie Francesca.
