- OPLE

The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) is supporting the senatorial bid of migrant advocate Susan “Toots” Ople.

Ople, the youngest daughter of the late Sen. Blas F Ople disclosed that she has formally accepted the offer of opposition leader Vice President Jejomar Binay to join their senatorial line up as a guest candidate. But there were no conditions attached.

“We agreed to collaborate on certain issues, particularly on global security concerns that now have an impact on the lives of our OFWs,” Ople, president of Blas F. Ople Policy Center and Training Institute said.

The institute is a non-profit organization that handles labor and migration concerns and develops programs to empower the OFW and his or her family.

“Lives of Filipinos overseas hang in the balance in conflict-affected countries such as Libya, Syria, and Iraq. Let’s keep tabs on them, and beef up resources for our embassies to be able to protect them,” she added.

Ople, said when she met with Binay and his running mate, Sen. Gregorio Honasan, the discussion did not cover which presidential and vice presidential candidate she should support for the 2016 polls.

“He (Honasan) also understands and appreciates my predicament because the NP has not just one, but three members vying for vice presidency. He emphasized that the offer came without any conditions from UNA,” Ople, a member of the Nacionalista party said.

There are three NP members running for vice president : Senators Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV, and Alan Cayetano.

Aside from Ople, UNA is also fielding Actress and Paranaque councilor Alma Moreno, Sulu Princess Jacel Kiram, lawyer Alan Montaño, former Special Action Force (SAF) chief retired police Director Getulio Napeñas, broadcast journalist Rey Langit, and Sarangani Rep. and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in the Senate.
