500 personnel to be deployed for ‘Undas’ in QC
With the bulk of vacationers expected to troop to the provinces for the All Saints’ Day break this week, Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista said that at least 500 personnel from the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) will be mobilized to strategic areas to complement law enforcers from other agencies in maintaining law and order.
During this period, Bautista said it was common occurrences that people suffer from travel delays, traffic bottlenecks, and similar inconveniences as unscrupulous groups take advantage of the congestion on the road, ports, airports and terminals.
Earlier, Councilor Victor Ferrer Jr., Eufemio Lagumbay, Ranulfo Ludovica and Jesus Manuel Suntay asked DPOS chief Elmo San Diego to prepare a contingency plan to respond to any emergency and public inconvenience more efficiently and promptly during the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
They said that the city government had to be ready at all times and must put in place all precautionary measures that will ensure the safety of the public during these celebrations.
On orders from Bautista, San Diego, who is also the head of the QC Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC), said the 500 DPOS personnel will be dispatched in the city’s major thoroughfares, side streets, and also at MRT/ LRT stations, churches, markets and bus terminals to ensure an orderly and smooth traffic flow.
The additional field personnel San Diego added will hopefully serve as deterrent to criminal acts as they are tasked to monitor untoward incidents and threats from unscrupulous persons and lawless groups.
