Constantin­o virtual champ in N. Luzon tilt

Harmie Constantin­o virtually secured the women’s Elite Division title as she padded her lead to 17 shots going into the final round of the Northern Luzon Regional Golf Championsh­ips at the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac.

Up by 13 after the first round, the petite Constantin­o put more distance on second running Ashia Nocum after turning in a three-over-par 75 for a two-day total of 148 in the event organized by the National Golf Associatio­n of the Philippine­s (NGAP). Nocum managed only a 79. Samantha Dizon likewise sealed her title win in the Novice division after hiking her lead to 21 shots over Wei Fang Gao with an 86.

Meantime, Ira Alido turned in a one-over-par 73 and gained a piece of the lead with Carl Corpus in the men’s Elite division.

Both Alido and Corpus tallied a two-day total of 149, one shot ahead of Wei Wei Gao, who matched par, and two over Luis Castro, who carded a 73.

Junior standout Aidric Chan, the overnight co-leader, shot himself in the foot with a horrendous 84 to slide to joint fifth with Nico Evangelist­a (82), Carlo Gatmaitan (81) and Paolo Uy (76).

Valentin Lopez continued his dominance in the Mid-Am Open with a 78 for 160. Noli Singca (87) and Kennedy Feliciano (83) paced the Seniors I and Mid-Am.

The event is held under the auspices of the PLDT National Amateur Golf Tour and sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation.
