Uh-oh, ‘OTWOL’-istas: Are you ready for Paulo Avelino to rock your world?
Following his laudable performance on “Bridges Of Love,” Paulo Avelino is set to make the country swoon again as an addition to ABS-CBN primetime series “On The Wings Of Love (OTWOL)” starting Monday.

Following his laudable performance on “Bridges Of Love,” Paulo Avelino is set to make the country swoon again as an addition to ABS-CBN primetime series “On The Wings Of Love (OTWOL)” starting Monday.
The idea of joining the hit show makes the actor giddy. “Na-e-excite ako sa maibibigay kong bago na yayanig at magpapalakas lalo sa show,” he said in an interview.
The 27-year-old actor plays the role of advertising hotshot Simon who just might test the love of Clark (James Reid) and Leah (Nadine Lustre) though you’d have to watch the show to see what really happens. Paulo stressed that in real life, he will not pose a problem to whatever relationship Nadine and James have.
Now, meddling with the characters of JaDine (James and Nadine), one of the hottest love teams today, will definitely raise eyebrows. It could even prompt die-hard fans of the show to bash Paulo online, but he simply said, “Hindi naman maiiwasan ’yun. Minsan nadadala lang talaga ang mga tao sa nakikita nila sa characters on TV.”
Paulo and James have known each other even before the show, having worked together as endorsers of a local product. Both of them also appeared at the Cosmo Bash last year.
This is the first time Paulo will work with Nadine whom he describes as “nice and creative.”
If he were to give the 22-year-old actress a Christmas gift, it would likely be a “nice camera.”
“Dahil napansin ko mahilig rin
siyang (kumuha ng pictures) base sa posts niya sa social media, and how she’s being acknowledged by a lot of people for her creativity,” Paulo said.
Counsel
To do a good job on “OTWOL,” Paulo sought advice from his friends in the advertising industry.
“I based my character on what I see and hear (from them) and I just keep asking them questions like ’yung
mga (advertising) terms nila or how they are in the office when presenting projects or when pitching ideas,” he said.
In a way, the actor-model can relate to the character. “Malapit din sa puso ko (’yung
role). Being the boss of Leah, nakakaexcite
na parang magpo-portray ka
ng ibang character na kailangang maging creative ka rin,” said he. Compared to the roles he played on previous teleseryes, this one is a breath of fresh air for Paulo.
“Mas relaxing gawin (’yung character kumpara) sa mga ginawa ko
dati. As a boss, you have to make a stand, pero at the same time, merong side si Simon na, sabihin na nating geeky,” he said.
Asked if he would also flaunt his bod in the series just like what James and Albie Casiño did in an earlier episode, Paulo turned cryptic: “Abangan
natin.”
Challenge

forest.
And though he hasn’t been in a “love square” relationship before – counting Jigs, played by Albie Casiño, as part of the equation – Paulo said he had met someone like Leah in real life.
With a hint of regret, he said, “Hindi ko naging girlfriend eh.”
“On the Wings of Love” directed by Antoinette Jadaone airs weekdays at 9:15 p.m. It has been the most watched program on iWant TV for two months in a row with 4.4 million total views in October alone.
Career
Paulo is one of the hottest stars today. He’s had backto-back projects, including the ABS-CBN series “Honesto,” and “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon; and films “Heneral Luna,” and “Resureksyon.”
By the looks of it, there is no stopping Paulo in showing more of his abilities in future projects.
“Medyo tumatanda na rin (ako kaya) kailangang pag-igihan pa ’yung trabaho para sa pinapangarap
natin sa buhay,” he said. Paulo made inroads in show business through the reality artista search. He has since earned several awards in the last nine years including the Best Actor plum at the 35th Gawad Urian Awards for the film “Ang Sayaw Ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” in 2012.
