Tree-planting in Agusan del Sur in full swing

PROSPERIDA­D, Agusan del Sur – The Department of Environmen­t and Natural Resources (DENR)Provincial Environmen­t and Natural resources office (PENRO) has already planted various tree species in an area covering 30, 291 hectares in this landlocked province of Agusan del Sur in Northeaste­rn Mindanao, it was learned yesterday.

The DENR-PENRO of Agusan del Sur, composed of the Community Environmen­t and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) of Bayugan City, Bunawan, Loreto, San Francisco, and Talacogon , is keen on hitting its target for wider tree planting developmen­t, in line with the agency’s National Greening Program (NGP).

Out of the 30,291 hectares that have been planted with tree seedlings, 10,464 has. were covered by CENRO Bayugan, 3,676 ha. by CENRO Bunawan, 6,052 ha. CENRO Loreto, 7,141 ha. CENRO San Francisco, and 2,958 has. CENRO Talacogon.

It was also learned that Agusan del Sur contribute­s the highest percentage of area developmen­t within the Caraga region.

For this year alone, the province has a total target of 7,705 ha wherein 7,286 ha equivalent to 97 percent has already alreadybee­n accomplish­ed. For the same year, the province has an additional target of 11,008 ha. under the NGP Mechanized Nursery target.

The continuous success of the program has given an opportunit­y to a total of 63 Extension Officers hired in 2015. The DENR-PENRO Agusan del Sur was also able to establish and maintain a forest nursery with a capacity of 15,000 seedlings.

DENR 13 Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo already mobilized all officers, employees, personnel and workers of various PENROs and CENROs spread all over Caraga region to “maximize their effort in planting across all idle and vacant lands and watershed areas in their respective areas.
