'The Gift of Sight' by Robinsons Malls

-

Launched February of this year, Robinsons Malls The Gift of Sight (TGOS) project continues to fulfill its mission of bringing better vision to those who need it the most.

Since its conception, The Gift of Sight project is able to serve a total of 1,763 beneficiaries from Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Bacolod and Dumaguete. “We would like to encourage more people to support the campaign by donating their change to the The Gift of Sight coin banks found all over Robinsons malls across the country. With campaigns like The Gift of Sight, we hope to let people know that a little goes a long way. Everyone can take part in helping other people live quality lives,” stated Roseann Coscolluela- Villegas, director for Public Relations of Robinsons Land Corporation.

Last November 15, 2016, Robinsons held a free eye screening activity in Robinsons Place Dumaguete for the benefit of the residents of Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete. With the joint effort from student volunteers from Silliman University, the benefiting barangay and Robinsons Place Dumaguete mall operations, 278 people were given thorough eyesight assessments and free prescription eyeglasses.

The on-going The Gift of Sight project is made possible through Robinsons Malls’ The Gift of Change, a coin bank collection campaign that is also able to help continuously support 23 underserved communities all over the Philippines with projects including Pailaw sa Barangay, Binyagang Bayan, Libreng Bakuna, Kasalang Bayan and Libreng Pintura para sa Eskwela. “We want to make sure we maximize every peso donated to the The Gift of Change campaign through thinking up projects that effect more permanent change. The adverse effects of poor eyesight are most often overlooked— headaches, neck pain, etc.Itcancause misunderstandings and is almost always a liability when it comes to earning a living. It stops people from fully experiencing the world around them. 90% of the world’s visually impaired live in low-income settings and that is what inspired the project,” said Villegas.
