Cardinal Tagle reminds faithful of mission to spread mercy

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle has reminded the faithful of the mission “to spread mercy and to build a society on the foundation of the merciful Jesus.”

“This year we have a mission. Let us build a society on the foundation of the merciful Jesus. Let every one of us be a stone for the construction of a just, truthful and loving society of mercy,” Tagle said in his homily during the Eucharistic celebration at the Manila Cathedral to open the Holy Year of Mercy in Manila last December 9.

The Church leader encouraged the hundreds of mass attendees not only to enter through the Holy Doors of pilgrim churches but also to go through “the doors of charity” of the homeless, the impoverished, the imprisoned, and the sick.

Tagle opened the Holy Door accompanied by persons with disabilities and former street children of the Tulay ng Kabataan, Glyzelle Palomar and Jun Chura, who had a chance to meet Pope Francis during his visit at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila last January.
