AND SHARE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

- ROWENA TAN By MAAN D’ASIS PAMARAN

In the last two decades, comedy gag show “Bubble Gang” has featured several notable personalities with many more wanting to make a guest appearance.

Michael V, the only holdover from the original cast, is not surprised about it.

“Kasi may reputasyon na ang ‘Bubble Gang’ bilang pinakamatagal and the best so far, for me ha. Hindi sa pag-aangat ng bangko pero kasi marami nang pinagdaanan ang show,” he explained.

The comedy actor admitted new blood is most welcome in the show because it keeps things interesting.

“Open kami na magkaroon ng bagong gangsters kasi evolving ang show eh. Hindi pwedeng manatili na ganu’n lang. Dapat kung ano ang bago eh, dapat magawa namin,” he said.

Michael V may be the creative director but he is not taking sole credit for the show’s success.

“Team effort 'yan (and) it has always been like that.”

Asked how they come up with sketches, Michael V says they observe what’s going on around them, the idea being that they simply want to hold up a mirror to the comical side of life.

He said, “Sa 20 years na takbo ng show, anything na nangyayari sa society natin eh, na-i-rereflect namin sa ‘Bubble Gang’ through gags, skits, spoofs.”

He admitted the show has had its low moments. “Pero nag-survive kami kasi hindi lang basta show ‘to, pamilya na ‘to eh. In a way din eh, nirerendehan kami ng network kaya mas nagiging maingat kami. Kaya nagtatagal kami,” he said.

Certainly, Michael V will never stop making people laugh.

“The only regret na magkakaroon lang ako eh, kapag ‘di na ako makakapagpangiti ng mga tao. So habang buhay, kapag may energy pa eh, sige mag-pa-pangiti tayo,” he said.

As part of “Bubble Gang’s” 20th anniversary celebration, a documentary chronicling the show’s milestones and featuring some of its iconic characters and sketches was recently screened at the Gateway Mall.

The commemorative book “IMBG: I Am Bubble Gang” was launched.

“‘ Yung book ay perfect trip down memory lane. Magandang accompaniment ’yan kapag gusto mo mag paka-senti kasi nako-chronicle lahat diyan ‘yung pinagdaanan ng ‘Bubble Gang’ for the 20 years na nag ere kami,” he said. (With report from Bhenj Agustin)

Fashion is fleeting, and trends come and go, but helping others never goes out of style. Three of the brightest young stars in Philippine showbiz came together recently to support a campaign that aims to raise entrepreneurs from the grassroots level, equipping them with the right tools for success.

Alden Richards, Matteo Guidicelli, and Janine Gutierrez took time off from their busy schedules to help introduce a new concept in social development, a fashion and lifestyle brand under the Boardwalk brand’s charity foundation. The subbrand is called Share, and it is innovative in the sense that instead of giving dole-outs or donations, the advocacy seeks to give its beneficiaries a leg up towards financial freedom.

The Share Kita-Kits that will be distributed to the chosen beneficiaries include 2,000 worth of Boardwalk household products and life items that they can sell to start a livelihood. More than that, Boardwalk scion and Share President Ivan Madera says that the “sharepreneurs” will undergo a 10-month training program under chosen Sharementors who will help them effectively manage and handle their own small business.

The funds for the Kita-Kits will be sourced from 25% of the sales from Share items which can be found in the brand’s website and also inside the Boardwalk brochure. At the moment, there are already 75 beneficiaries under the program, and 106 Kita-Kits ready for roll-out, from the P200,000 pledges from existing Boardwalk selling partners.

The three celebrities lauded the new campaign, which aims to do its part in nation-building.

Janine said, “Sometimes, people forget how simple the act of sharing is, but how big an impact it can create.”

Matteo adds that he finds Share to be a good program, particularly because of the training aspect.

“It helps our kababayans start up their own business, offering them a better future and a better life.” Alden, who is active in advocacies such as Habitat for Humanity, says he is doing his responsibility as a celebrity to bring awareness to good causes. He encourages the Aldub fans to support this cause as well.

“I encourage everyone to do their share to help improve the Philippines. In the end, we have to rely on each other,” he said.
