Olongapo mayor welcomes ruling on EDCA

OLONGAPO CITY, Zamyear bales — Mayor Rolen Paulino of this city expressed yesterday his support for the upholding of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) by the Supreme Court (SC).

With the ruling, more US forces would visit the Subic Bay Freeport.

The mayor said that he expects more soldiers to spend their time and money here for their rest and recreation (RNR), granted that their liberty would extend to Olongapo City.

Paulino said that he fully supports the upholding of the agreement and the statement made by Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach during her question and answer portion at the Miss Universe pageant. “She knows the importance of the relationship between US and Philippines. My administration here fully supports her statement,” he said.

During the pageant, Wurtzbach cited the close ties between the United States and the Philippines and that more US troops deployed in the Philippines was not a problem.
