SAN MARIANO, Isabela — Police investigators here are linking the ambush of a married couple last Friday to their work as school principals of a public elementary school and high school in this town.

Chief Inspector Arnold Bulan, local chief of police, said Jovelito Camba, Sr. 52, and his wife Josephine, 54, were shot and wounded while on their way home at 9:30 p.m. last Friday in Sitio Kasisiitan in Barangay Minanga, this town.

Bulan said the ambush was carried out by assailants ridingin-tandem on a motorcycle who have been tailing the victims’ vehicle.

It was learned that Mr. Camba, principal of the Daragutan East High School, and Mrs. Camba, the principal of the Cataguing Elementary School, both located in this town, were wounded in their right legs.

Although investigators collected seven bullet casings of a 9-mm gun, Bulan said they believe the attackers had no intention of killing the couple, who are now in stable condition at the hospital.

He said the motive in the attack could be work related because Mr. Camba was known to be at odds with several people for allegedly being “too strict” in the performance of his job at the school.

“Nabanggit ng ilang kakilala ng biktima na masyado istrikto ang principal na lalaki kaya isa ito sa tinitingan na anggulo (We’ve learned from those who know the victims that the male principal is too strict so that’s the angle we’re looking into),” said Bulan.
