Indonesia asks Facebook to block LGBT content

-

JAKARTA (PNA/ANTARA News) – The Communications and Information Ministry has asked Facebook to block the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) content in Indonesia.

“The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issue is not in accordance with manners, morals of religion and the values of Pancasila,” Director of Informatics Empowerment of Communications and Information Ministry Septriana Tangkary said here Tuesday.

Facebook was a popular application among children and adolescents, Tangkary said.

Therefore, LGBT content would be very harmful for the development of the child.

“The children will not grow well as they can access content containing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issue,” she said.

In addition to Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp should block LGBT content.

Earlier, Indonesia said it would not bow to foreign pressure in addressing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issue.

“We will not bow to foreign pressure in handling the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issue,” Coordinating Political, legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said.

Indonesia will not follow Brazil that has legalized same-sex marriages (LGBT) even though Brazil is predominantly Catholic.
