Poe’s adopting parents hold the key

- By FR. BEL R. SAN LUIS, SVD

PEOPLE are wondering why the Supreme Court (SC) is foot- dragging on the disqualification case of Senator Grace Poe.

This is also the criticism hurled by the Liberal Party on the slow pace the SC is moving. I have nothing against Senator Poe. In fact, I hope and pray she would get over the case soonest.

However, I agree with those people concerned that a speedy resolution of the case is of grave public interest. For one thing, it will be extremely difficult for the Supreme Court to come out with a fair and objective decision once the election is near and Sen. Poe is leading the surveys.

According to some quarters and that include the Comelec, Sen. Poe is considered not a natural- born citizen having been a foundling left in a church in Jaro, Iloilo, and the latest DNA test results on her alleged relatives in Guimaras Islands turned out negative.

The poll body also ruled that she is short of the required 10-year residency before the May elections.

With these opposing views, the offer of Senator Bongbong Marcos who, by the way, calls Grace Poe “Sis” in the Senate — jocosely I suppose — to undergo the DNA test might prove to be a breakthrough.

In addition, surely her surviving parent Susan Roces, who adopted Grace should know who her real parents are and can help trace them.

A sister of Susan Roces might even hold the key to unravel the mystery.

LIGHTER SIDE… on Campaign Trail. LP standard bearer Mar Roxas angered his archrival Mayor Rodrigo Duterte again. After Mar said that presidential candidates should bare their health record following a migraine attack that forced Duterte to skip a meeting with doctors, the fighting mayor challenge Mar he would do that if he showed proof “he is circumcised.”

Baring health record can be hazardous to touchy politicos’!

In Davao, there is a group called ALDUB – Alyansa ni Duterte at Bongbong. There are others like BIBO (Binay-Bongbong), AROMA (Alyansang Roxas-Marcos) and MARIMAR (Mar-Marcos)
