French LRT supplier to help Yolanda victims
The Alstom Foundation of France will support 18 new projects worldwide this year, including one that will benefit typhoon victims in the Philippines.
In a statement, Alstom said the project is called “Improving living conditions of populations affected by the increase in typhoons in Philippines, especially in South-East Samar region.”
The project aims to contribute to improving the resilience capacities and living conditions of populations affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the South Eastern Samar province, Philippines.
This project will be implemented by a French based NGO, ACTED.
Established in 2007, with a budget of 1 million per year, the Alstom Foundation supports and funds projects proposed by Alstom’s employees who decide to team up with local partners and not-for-profit organizations to carry out initiatives aimed at improving living conditions in communities located near the Group’s facilities and project sites around the world.
The categories of the projects initially were: Economic and Social Development, Access to Energy and Water and Environmental Protection.
With Alstom refocused on transport since November, 2015, the Foundation established an additional category: Access to Mobility.
Alstom registered a local company, Alstom Transport Construction Philippines, Inc., in the Philippines at the end of 2014.
With this entity, Alstom intends to support the Philippines Transport Authorities in the development of safe, fast and reliable transportation solutions.
Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite Extension is Alstom’s first transport project in the Philippines. Alstom will provide an integrated metro solution to LRT Line 1 and its Cavite extension from 2016 until 2020.
