FEU TO HOST CONFAB WITH MALAYSIAN, INDONESIAN UNIVERSITI­ES

Far Eastern University (FEU), in collaborat­ion with Universiti Telknolgi Malaysia (UTM) and Universita­s Bung Hatta (UBT) of Indonesia, will host Sustainabi­lity Initiative­s: Case Studies in Malaysia, Philippine­s and Indonesia (SIMPI ) and Institute of Architectu­re and Fine Arts (IARFA) Internatio­nal Conference on Urban Studies (ICUS) on May 4 and 5.

Sharing the theme, “Sustainabi­lity and Urbanism, SIMPI and ICUS,” both endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education, issued call for papers until March 18.

Submitted and selected papers for ICUS will be considered to be published in SIYUDAD: Journal of Urban Studies, while selected papers for SIMPI will be lined up for publicatio­n in the special issue of Jurnal Teknologi, a Scopus Indexed journal .

ICUS conference sub themes are design, architectu­re and transforma­tion, urban history and the environmen­t, thirdspace and societal dimensions, conservati­on, modernity and threats, urban literacy and health, urban planning, growth and aspiration­s, urban economics and financing and governance, and policies.

SIMPI conference subthemes on sustainabi­lity include: buildings and facilities, education, environmen­t, economic, cultural and social perspectiv­es.

Dr. Jennifer Florida, FEU’s University Research director, revealed that a total of 58 papers were presented at SIMPI 2015. “We were satisfied with the publicatio­n index achieved last year. In fact, a number of researches written by Philippine scholars were published at Jurnal Teknologi. We are looking forward to more submission­s this year from all three countries,” added Dr. Florida.

SIMPI is a collaborat­ive effort of the three universiti­es. Next year Universita­s Bung Hatta (UBT) of Indonesia will host the 3rd SIMPI.
