Choose candidates with concrete plans for inclusive growth, voters told

- By CHRISTINA I. HERMOSO

With the national elections only six weeks away, a business leader and head of a disaster recovery foundation advise voters “to choose candidates with concrete plans for inclusive growth.”

“Inclusive growth. Hindi lang jobs abroad but more importantly, here in the country,” Peter Angelo Perfecto, executive director of the Makati Business Club said during the fifth Radio Veritas Servant Leadership ‘Halalan’ forum.

Good leaders, he said must include in their agenda plans for the future. Halimbawa, the best seafarers in the world are the Filipinos. Dapat ang maging pananaw ng taong-bayan, ano ang Pilipinas 10 years, 20 years from now. Ano tayo sa mundo? We are known for so many good things, so where else do we want to be good? Perfecto stressed.

Servant not boss For his part, Rene ‘Butch” Meily, president of the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation said, a servant leader must be good in conceptualizing programs for the people he serves and must always be the one who serves not the one who is being served.

“Conceptualization is very important. They really have to serve others. Dapat may idea sila na may katungkulan sila sa kapwa at may katungkulan sila sa Diyos to serve,“Meily stressed.

The Veritas Servant Leadership ‘Halalan’ is a special election forum that focuses on the 10 qualities of a servant leader aimed at helping voters choose their candidates. The 10 qualities include listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of the people, and building community.
