Umali brothers, Leachon proclaimed in Or. Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Umali brothers and embattled 1st District Rep. Paulino Salvador C. Leachon handily won their respective electoral races in this province and were proclaimed by local Commission on Elections (Comelec) officials the other night.

Governor Alfonso V. Umali, Jr., as expected, won by a wide margin (217,103 votes) over his neophyte rival Sally Andaya (74,858), while his brother 2nd District Rep. Rey V. Umali also beat his lone rival Maylene Morante (Independen­t) with 102,429 votes and 21,102 votes, respective­ly.

Meanwhile, Congressma­n Leachon easily beat his rival, with 113,908 votes against customs broker Joel Teves (UNA) who got 72,539.

Incumbent Vice-Gov. Humerlito Bonz A. Dolor (LP) trounced his rival, businessma­n Romeo Roxas with 241,885 votes as against Roxas’ 40,264 and third candidate Osias Irangan’s 3,005 votes.

Meanwhile, Rockey Ilagan (NPC) got elected mayor of tourist haven, Puerto Galera, defeating his rivals Teo Atienza (PDP-LBN) and former Department of Education Superinten­dent Estrellita Dorlor (LP).

In Calapan City Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan stays on for another term, winning with 36,448 votes over his opponent Rona Leachon, wife of Rep. Leachon, who raked in 23,148 votes.
