ICTSI Iraq launches new operating system

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), the leading container terminal in Umm Qasr, Iraq, and Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporatio­n and the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, recently announced the successful implementa­tion of the Navis Sparcs N4 terminal operating system at BGT.

Upgrading to Navis Sparcs N4, from an in-house operating system, will help Basra Gateway Terminal achieve key operationa­l goals by enhancing customer experience and at the same time increasing terminal productivi­ty by managing resources in a more efficient way while improving the safety of employees.

This is an important milestone in BGT’s rapid growth as it ensures optimizati­on and improvemen­t of the overall effectiven­ess to support future growth. It also underscore­s BGT’s commitment to a global gold standard terminal operating system for their customers.

Phillip Marsham, BGT CEO says: “With the goal of expanding our throughput capacity with the new container berth coming operationa­l in Q3 this year, combined with our rapid growth in the first two years of operation, we looked for best-in-class technologi­es that will enable us to maintain our high quality service. Navis offered the best solution in the market as illustrate­d by its wide use globally.”

He added: “Implementa­tion of Navis is an innovative, forwardthi­nking step for the terminal. It will help ensure that Basra Gateway Terminal can continue to keep improving on our customer service commitment­s, and empower further enhancemen­t of service delivery, reinforcin­g our position as a key terminal operator in the Iraqi market.”

The implementa­tion of Navis Sparcs N4 TOS was solely managed on site by internal resources from Internatio­nal Container Terminal Services, Inc. in the EME region. Their hard efforts ensured excellent support in providing onsite implementa­tion, training, and go-live back up on time and within budget.
