Bounty paid to cops for killing Cebu drug suspect

- By MARS W. MOSQUEDA JR.

CEBU CITY — A police team that killed a suspected drug pusher in Cebu City has received 150,000 from mayorelect Tomas Osmeña.

Osmeña, who last week promised bounty or financial rewards to policemen who can kill drug personalities or robbers, handed the reward money to Senior Insp. Eunil Avergonzado, head of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group.

The group killed suspected drug pusher Teodoro "Doroy" Cabriana during a police operation in Barangay Sudlon 2, Cebu City last Thursday.

Cabriana was shot after he allegedly tried to shoot it out with the operatives.

Avergonzado thanked Osmeña for the reward but said he and his men were simply doing their job to protect the community.

He said they will utilize 125,000 of the reward money to buy equipment and donate the other half to the church in Barangay Pitalo, San Fernando, Cebu that was hit by fire last May 3.

Last week, Osmeña had also handed over reward money to PO3 Julius Regis, who pursued robbers while off duty. Regis shot two of the suspects who held up a public utility jeepney (PUJ) in Cebu City.

Osmeña explained that the reward given was 120,000 because the two robbers that Regis shot were only injured and were not shot dead.

Osmeña said he has information that there are policemen involved in the illegal drugs business and he is looking for them.

"But it's not only drug pushers… also policemen… there are policemen who are part of the system. So this warning enclosed not only to the drug lords but also to the policemen who are involved," Osmeña said.
