Mighty targets sweep as Jumbo eyes rubber

-

Mighty Sports goes for a sweep of Jumbo Plastic and capture the PCBL Chairman’s Cup crown today in Game 2 of their best-of-three finals series at the Marikina Sports Center.

After a convincing 79-67 victory in Game 1 last Sunday, Mighty is determined not to let a golden opportunity slip away and complete a dominating PCBL debut in their 7 p.m. duel with the inaugural champion Linoleum Giants.

Coach Mike Fermin is bracing for a big fightback from Jumbo Plastic.

“We’ll go for it in Game 2. Kapag umabot pa yan ng Game 3, delikado na kami kasi veteran team yung Jumbo and naglaro na rin sila sa finals so mataas yung championship experience nila,” said Fermin.

MVP candidate Kiefer Ravena and Best Import frontrunner Bright Akhuetie were the reasons for Mighty’s impressive showing in the series opener of the tournament supported by Hahn Manila, Spalding, Leatherman, Ambucore, LGR and During’s Barbeque and Restaurant.

Ravena fired 15 of his 20 points in the second half while Akhuetie posted 18 points and 19 rebounds for Mighty Sports.

But Jumbo Plastic isn’t about to give up the fight yet and the Linoleum Giants will once again bank on their fiery backcourt combination of Jeff Viernes, last conference’s Finals MVP, and ex-Powerade guard James Martinez.

The Linoleum Giants, however, will need to get a better showing from Jay-R Taganas, last conference’s Mythical Five member, and the team’s most consistent big man.
