PH golfers advance to 4-ball round of 16

Princess Superal and Pauline del Rosario sustained fierce form and eased out Mikayla Fitzpatrick and Alisa Snyder of Phoenix, 3&2, to roll into the second round of the upset-marred US Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship Match Play at the Streamsong Blue at Streamsong Resort in Florida Monday.

Coming off a record-setting 132 in the 36-hole stroke play, including a bogey-free 66 Sunday, The Country Club bets kept their bogey-free run going, combining for four birdies as against Fitzpatrick and Snyder’s lone-birdie effort on No. 6 to lead the cast in the Last 16.

That includes fellow TCC mainstays Sofia Chabon and Mikha Fortuna, who placed 14th in the elims then beat Alysa Lamoureux and Alexa Pano, 5&4, in their side of the knockout duel.

Chabon and Fortuna rattled off four straight birdies from No. 11 which Lamoureux and Pano failed to match, enabling the Filipina bets to turn what had been a tight match into a runaway triumph.

The top seeded Superal and Del Rosario will next face Hana Ku and Jordan Lippetz, who nipped Kaitlin Milligan and Sydney Youngblood on the 19th hole while Chabon and Fortuna tangle with siblings Nicole and Waverly Whiston, the No. 31 seed who pulled off a shock 1-up victory over No. 2 Sierra Brooks and Kristen Gillman, in the lower half of the draw.

“The girls are playing great golf and are complementing well with each other’s games,” said TCC coach Bong Lopez. “With the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 teams out, focus is now on Superal and Del Rosario and I hope they, along with Chabon and Fortuna, stay focused and get the job done.”
