NBI arrests anti-drug cop reselling seized illegal drugs
A police officer assigned with the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Division of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation-National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) yesterday for reportedly reselling illegal drugs seized during drug operations.
NBI-NCR regional director lawyer Max Salvador said Police Officer 2 Jolly Aliangan, his cousin Jeffrey Gutierrez, a civilian agent of the NCRPO, and Aliangan’s wife, Rona Navarro, were all arrested in Sampaloc, Manila,
yesterday.
The raid came after NBI-NCR received reports that a person was moving drugs from the so-called “Bilibid 19” referring to drug lords peddling drugs from their cells at the maximum security compound of the state penitentiary in Muntinlupa. Further, investigation revealed the subject was a police officer from the NCRPO.
“Noon pa may information na about some people moving illegal drugs from the Bilibid. ‘Yun ang pinagtuunan namin ng pansin hanggang sa makuha namin ang pangalan (We have received information about some people moving illegal drugs from Bilibid. We worked on that until we got the name),” he said.
Salvador said Aliangan sold the illegal drugs recovered through drug raids to several patrons in Metro Manila. His customers reportedly pay through money remittance centers and pick up the contraband from his house.
16.9-million cash
The raid on Alangan’s three-story house in Balic-Balic also yielded a number of unlicensed firearms. A vault contained around 16.9-million cash and more than 100 grams of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia.
Salvador said some of the suspected shabu powder were already flushed by Aliangan’s wife down the toilet.
As of press time, NBI-NCR is still doing an inventory of the contraband seized from Aliangan’s residence.
Salvador said they have reason to believe Alangan is not operating alone and someone bigger is behind him.
“Malaking syndicate kasi ang drugs. It just so happens na unfortunately isang police ang nagmo-move at kasama pa sa anti-illegal drugs (Drugs is a big syndicate. It just so happens that unfortunately, a member of the Anti-Illegal Drugs division is the one doing it),” he said.
Aliangan’s position as a member of the NCRPO-Anti-Illegal Drugs Division, Salvador said, is the perfect cover up for his deals.
The NBI-NCR is working on reports that some of Aliangan’s customers have gone missing after failing to remit their payment.
