Cadets too much for Indonesia

The Gilas Cadets virtually assured themselves of a place in the final after crushing Indonesia, 83-52, last night for their third win in the SEABA Stankovic Cup at the Stadium 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Former Far Eastern University stars Mike Tolomia and Roger Pogoy scored 12 points apiece while exUniversity of Santo Tomas mainstay Kevin Ferrer added 10 markers as the Philippines moved a win shy of sweeping the elimination round.
Gilas will formalize its entry in the one-game championship on Saturday if host Thailand beats Singapore in their match being played at presstime.
A victory by Thailand will forge a title clash with Gilas, while making tonight’s 7:30 p.m. Manila time encounter a warm-up match.
Thailand won its first two games in the tournament while Singapore split its first two games.
The finalists of the week-long competition will earn slots in the FIBA Asia Challenge set Sept. 9 to 18 in Iran.
Jiovanni Jalalon, who topscored with 17 points in Tuesday’s victory over Singapore, had nine points while Tropang TNT rookie Troy Rosario and Mac Belo combined for 17 points.
The Cadets once again displayed top notch defense as they limited the Indonesians to just 26 points in the final two quarters as they built on a 15 point halftime lead to break the game wide open for good.
All in all, the Philippines limited the Indonesians to 28 percent shooting and scored 33 points off the 21 miscues of Indonesia.
Surliyadin Surliyadin paced the Indonesians with 12 markers. Aside from their offensive struggles, they also got outrebounded 54-34.
Indonesia ended the elims by losing all four games.
