Drug lords raise bounty for Duterte, Dela Rosa to 150M

- By AARON B. RECUENCO

Convicted drug lords now languishing in prison have reportedly increased the bounty for two major targets – incoming President Rodrigo Duterte and incoming Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Supt. Ronald dela Rosa.

After a 110-million contract has failed to lure bounty hunters to do the job, the reward has been raised to 150 million for each of the targets, Dela Rosa said.

Dela Rosa said a source had reported to him that raising the reward was the topic of the second meeting

of the drug lords now languishing at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP).

“What they did not know is that one of those present in the meeting has told me what they had discussed,” said Dela Rosa.

The incoming PNP chief has his eyes on the convicted drug lords who he said have been operating in the comfort and security of the NBP.

“There are a lot of them inside the NBP. They are enjoying the protection inside. They are safe because they are being guarded by the prison guards so how can the police arrest them,” said Dela Rosa.

What he could not accept is the fact that the convicted drug lords are still able to run their illegal drugs transactions inside the NBP, he said, noting that such only means there is rampant corruption inside the NBP.

Asked how he would deal with the drug lords inside the NBP, Dela Rosa said: “They should be taken out of the NBP horizontally.”

The NBP was raided at least 30 times since “Oplan Galugad” started in November, 2015.

Aside from shabu and other illegal drugs, authorities also found guns, electronic gadgets, household appliances, and even a swimming pool at the rooftop of an abandoned prisoners’ hut.

On the country’s illegal drugs problem, Dela Rosa admitted that the fight against illegal drugs across the country would be easy if the citizens and various groups would help the police.

Dela Rosa said he has his own list of drug lords across the country but he refused to reveal the names.

Earlier, Duterte had urged the public to join the fight against illegal drugs, asking them to arrest or kill drug lords to get a reward of 15 million.
