ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Education in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DepEdARMM) has administered an English Proficiency Examination to 1,216 applicants for prospective senior high school (SHS) teachers in the region.

Over in the Caraga region the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) is hiring 1,100 rookie police officers to beef up police stations, regional provincial and city mobile forces as well as strengthen its capabilities against all forms of criminality, particularly the all-out war against illegal drugs.

SHS teachers’ test ARMM Education Secretary Dr. John Magno said the department will hire close to 1,000 SHS teachers who will fill up vacancies in the schools divisions of Maguindanao I and II, Lanao del Sur I and II and Marawi City.

Magno said the schools divisions of Lamitan City, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi also administered a similar examination for their applicants last June 1. The number of school teachers to be hired was not specified.

The applicants had to go through a process that includes teaching demonstration, panel interview and intensive screening of their pertinent papers such as transcript of records, overall average rating in college and other credentials, Magno said.

Amir Mawallil, ARMM’s Bureau of Public Information executive director, said the regional DepEd was set to inform and swear in the new batch of secondary school mentors, who were among the 1,216 applicants that took last week’s English Proficiency Test.

“The recruitment of new teachers forms part of the ARMM governance’s preparations for a smooth start of the senior high school education module under the K to 12 program,” Mawallil said.

Magno added that the processes being undertaken in the hiring of new teachers would guarantee that only good quality teachers will be hired in order for students to have a ‘progressive future.’

On April 25, more than 560 elementary and junior high teachers signed their appointment papers and deployment orders in the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.

The expected salaries for senior high school teachers ranges from P19,940 to P39,493.

Dr. Magno said applicants will be ranked according to DepEd’s criteria for evaluation and selection process as he also assured that ARMM-DepEd would follow strictly the general guidelines for the hiring and placement of successful applicants. Police applicants wanted
