From Du30 comes Do 30 initiative in Davao City

- By YAS D. OCAMPO

DAVAO CITY – Riding on the popularity of the hashtag that boosted recall for her father in the presidential elections, City Mayor Sara Duterte has launched the “Davao: Byaheng Do 30” initiative here.

Under “Byaheng Do 30,” Sara Duterte said her administration would be undertaking at least 30 priority projects and initiatives in the city as based on 10 key priority areas.

The mayor laid out the strategy in City Budget Memorandum No. 1 she issued recently.

“In the next three years, this administration will be doing and implementing at least 30 priority projects and initiatives based on … 10 key priority areas,” she said.

These areas would be poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, solid waste management, health, education, agriculture, tourism, transportation planning and traffic management, peace and order, and disaster risk reduction and mitigation.

Mayor Duterte said that the city government’s key initiatives will be achieved through the capacity building of barangays, advancement of development potentials, promotion of key sectors, enhancement of proactive approaches in peace and order, and the adoption of transparent, efficient, and effective delivery of public services.

The department heads have been instructed to help identify the 30 priority projects.

To be included in the planning for the next three years are the private sector, non-government organizations, community-based organizations, among others, to “ensure public participation in the planning, implementation and management of key social projects.”

Mayor Duterte said that the “sustainability of development programs will be of utmost consideration.”

City council finance committee chair Danilo Dayanghirang said last week that the city’s budget could reach a record P7 billion due to an increase of the city’s internal revenue allotment (IRA).
