Monsoon trough, LPA to bring more rains

- By ELLALYN B. DE VERA

The monsoon trough or extended cloudiness of "habagat" and a low pressure area (LPA) will affect Luzon and the Visayas bringing light to moderate rains over most parts of the country today.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the LPA at 770 km east of Infanta, Quezon on Sunday morning.

It said both weather systems will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Luzon and Visayas, and the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Mindanao.

PAGASA said that by Tuesday and Wednesday, the LPA is expected to move northeast and exit the northeastern boundary of the country's area of responsibility.

However, the enhanced habagat will bring moderate to heavy rains and isolated thunderstorms over Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and the rest of Visayas will be cloudy with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

By Thursday, the enhanced habagat will continue to affect the southern part of Luzon and Western Visayas.

Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur will experience moderate to occasionally heavy rains and isolated thunderstorms.

Metro Manila, Western Visayas and the provinces of Bataan, Rizal and Quezon will be cloudy with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

By Friday, the habagat is expected to weaken but Metro Manila, Central and Southern Luzon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms.
