Zambo BOC surpasses target collection

- By NONOY E. LACSON

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has exceeded its target collection by over R26 million for the first seven months of this year, becoming the only BOC district office in the country to meet and surpass its target.

BOC District Collector Engr. Benhur Pinda-Asia Arabani yesterday said the local BOC here has collected R125,835,300 million for the first seven months of this year as against its target goal collection of only R99,743,000 million.

According to Arabani, his district needs only about R49,175,700 million to meet the R175,011,000 million target collection for the entire year.

He explained that the bulk of collection of his district came from taxes levied on basic and non-basic commodities, cement products, construction materials, liquefied petroleum products (LPG) and logs importation from Malaysia and Papua New Guinea by plywood firms .

Arabani also warned rice and sugar smugglers in this city, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi provinces to refrain from bringing in goods without proper documents.

He said if the deputized agents of the BOC will apprehend them, his office has no room to talk terms with them for the release of their apprehended goods.

“Just legalize your importation of rice and sugar and you will not encounter any problem with the authorities,” he said.
