Ilocos Norte to mark Ferdinand Marcos’ 99th birth anniversar­y

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has prepared series of activities to mark the 99th birth anniversar­y of the late former President Ferdinand E. Marcos (FEM) starting tomorrow, September 9.

The three-day celebratio­n will kick off with the Marcos Fiesta Job Fair at the Robinsons Place Ilocos main activity area in San Nicolas town.

An opening program sponsored by the Rotary Club of Metro Ilocos Norte will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Robinsons annex activity area.

In the same venue, the Makoy Literary and Arts Contest, also sponsored by the Rotary Club of Metro Ilocos Norte, will start at10:45a.m. with the FEM Quiz Show to be participat­ed by high school students across the province.

It will be followed by the Kalesa painting contest from 10:45 a.m. to 5:00p.m. and FEM debate cup at 3:00 p.m.

On September 10, a mini-exhibition of posters will be launched at 10:30 a.m.

A throwback OPM hits medley quartet singing contest will be held simultaneo­usly at the Robinson’s annex activity area.

It will be followed by the Pinoy tango, creative story-telling and ‘Ferdie and Imelda’ sing-a-like and look-a-like contests.

Marcos’ actual birth anniversar­y on September 11 will begin with a cookoff featuring Ilocano delicacies and dinengdeng (a vegetable broth with fish paste), the former president’s favorite dish, set at the Imelda Cultural Center in Batac City.

The event is sponsored by the Bakers and Restaurant­s Associatio­n of Ilocos Norte.

The celebratio­n will culminate with a mass at the Immaculate Concepcion Batac Church at 4:00p.m. and dinner at the FEM Presidenti­al Center at 6:00 p.m.

A candle-lighting rite is set starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Imelda Cultural Center in Batac City.
