A low pressure area (LPA) inside the country’s area of responsibility will continue to bring rains over parts of Visayas and Mindanao, while the southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat” will prevail over the extreme Northern Luzon this weekend, according to state weather forecasters.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the LPA at 360 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur before noon yesterday.

It said the weather disturbance will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental.

PAGASA warned residents in areas directly affected by the LPA of possible floods and landslides triggered by the moderate to heavy rains.

Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA is expected over Southern Leyte, Bohol and Cebu.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon affecting extreme Northern Luzon will bring cloudy skies with light to moder- ate rains and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan group of islands.

PAGASA said cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
