8 dengue hotspots in Bacolod

-

BACOLOD CITY — Eight barangays in this city with a high concentration of dengue cases are the focus of prevention and control measures of the City Health Office (CHO).

The barangays are Taculing, Villamonte, Mansilingan, Estefania, Singcang-Airport, Alijis, Bata, and Mandalagan.

As of Wednesday, each of the barangays has more than 30 dengue cases, CHO records showed.

“We are doing our best to prevent and control the dengue cases in Bacolod,” City Health Officer Ma. Carmela Gensoli said.

From January to September 7, Bacolod has registered 915 dengue cases, a 145 percent jump from the 373 cases for the same period in 2015.

So far, Bacolod has recorded eight deaths, all of them children 10 years old and below.

The CHO has conducted forums in barangays and schools, and fogging operations in the villages identified as dengue hotspots.

Gensoli said barangay officials have committed to lead activities such as the 4 o'clock habit of cleaning the surroundings.

She also reiterated the need to practice the Department of Health (DOH) 4S campaign.

4S stands for Search and destroy possible breeding places of denguecausing mosquitoes; Self-protection measures, including wearing of long sleeves or long pants; Seek early consultation, if a person shows early signs and symptoms of dengue; and Say no to indiscriminate fogging. (PNA)
