Manila cop shot dead by colleague
Apolice officer was arrested after he fatally shot one of his colleagues during a fraternity anniversary gone awry in Tondo, Manila Wednesday night.
PO1 Louie Wang, 32, of the Manila Police Department Station 1 (Raxabago Station) died on the spot after he was shot repeatedly by PO1 Mark Sagun, 31, assigned at the Regional Police Holding Accounting Unit (RPHAU) in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
Investigator SPO2 Charles Duran said that the incident happened at around 8:10 p.m. inside the house of a certain Cesar Lajom on the corner of Canal Dela Reina and Pavia Streets in Tondo.
Initial investigation showed that the two were having a drinking session together with some friends.
Witnesses told probers that Wang and Sagun went outside the house, and were already in a heated argument for still unknown reasons when they returned.
Moments later, Sagun suddenly drew his firearm and shot Wang.
Sagun fled after the incident and took the Honda Beat motorcycle with plate number ME-38733 of a certain Eliser Halamani, 33, at gun point.
Fortunately, the Tactical Motorcycle Rider Unit (TMR) of MPD Station 2 was on patrol in the area and came to Halamani’s rescue.
The police team eventually cornered Sagun on Juan Luna Street.
Recovered from the crime scene were spent shells, live ammunition, a .9 mm. pistol, a Philippine National Police identification card and a sachet of shabu.
Further investigation is ongoing to establish the motive of the crime.
Sagun will be charged with murder and vehicle theft. (Analou De Vera)
