Miriam back to battling cancer in ICU
Former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is again at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Manila and is in critical condition.
Sources told the Manila Bulletin that the feisty senator, who has been battling Stage 4 lung cancer, is back at the ICU, this time, at the St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City, Taguig.
According to sources, the senator has been at the ICU since September 3.
The last time the former lawmaker was rushed to the ICU was in May 31 at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) due to “complications.”
Santiago was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 but later on announced she was able to “conquer” her illness.
However, she later on developed anorexia as side-effect of her continuous medication.
Despite this, she was able to bounce back and decided to run for the May 2016 presidential elections with Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. as her vice-presidential candidate.
However, then Davao City Mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte defeated her and four other presidential bets.
During the campaign, Santiago rarely held sorties due to her illness. She skipped the second presidential debate organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announcing she is undergoing clinical trial of an anti-cancer drug.
