- By MARTIN A. SADONGDONG

Local entrepreneurs were given more marketing opportunities after the Department of Science and TechnologyTechnology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) launched two new books featuring locally-invented technologies.

“This landmark document highlights the journey of S&T community in pursuing technologies relevant to sustainable national development,” DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Pena said during the book launch which was held in Quezon City.

The books “Kalipunan: Compendium of DOST Technologies” and “Compendium of Successful TAPI-Assisted Projects Under Venture Financing Program” is seen to inspire DOST-assisted business owners to forge new collaborations with the agency’s stakeholders, DOST-TAPI Director Edgar Garcia said. ‘Kalipunan’ The “Kalipunan: Compendium on DOST Technologies” is a book which serves as a reference material on DOSTassisted technologies and to promote the said technologies to the public.

“Kalipunan” means “a group of” or “lot” that represents the core of the publication. It aims to present as one the ingenuity, creativity and dedication of Filipino science and technology community, Garcia said.

The book features 134 DOST-generated and assisted technologies that are ready to leap into the mainstream market through public and private sector transfer, adoption, and commercialization. The featured technologies are grouped into five namely: Agricultural Productivity, Industry Competitiveness, Countryside Development, Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation, and Quality Healthcare.

It contains technology descriptions, contact details of researchers, identified beneficiaries, pictures, and other information from DOST research institutes and councils.

Book of TAPI-assisted projects The “Compendium of Successful TAPI-Assisted Projects Under Venture Financing Program”, on the other hand, is a book that gives brief stories on 37 DOSTTAPI-assisted entrepreneurs that hurdled their early challenges and struggles, particularly in securing critical working capital and equipment in running their businesses.

Currently, DOST-TAPI has seven priority areas of assistance, namely food processing; furniture; gifts, houseware and decors; marine and aquaculture; horticulture and aquaculture; metals and engineering; health products and pharmaceuticals; and ICT and electronics.

Outstanding researches Meanwhile, the DOST in Northern Samar (DOST-8) will present and promote outstanding researches and milestones in Philippine science and technology (S&T) during the Technology Transfer Day this week.

DOST Regional Director Edgardo M. Esperancilla said the three-day event hopes to create a strong partnership among them and their stakeholders.

“The event is being done to find relevant and responsive solutions to the local industry’s needs,” he noted.
