Classmates used to call her “Free Willy” (as in the movie about a whale) owing to her weight. Years later, as Cassiopeia on the GMA teleserye “Encantadia,” It Girl Solenn Heussaff-Bolzico is showing off fierce fighting form.

To encourage others to aim for the same positive physical transformation, Solenn recently launched a book which chronicles her food struggles. It started when she was around 8, at a kiddie camp that she and brother Erwan attended, where they were forced to finish their food.

“Nasanay kami na kumain ng marami. As kids, you feel like you can eat anything,” she said. “We were also not sporty. I was part of the swimming team but that was it.”

When classmates started teasing her about her “whale-like proportions,” she did something drastic.

“Our parents went away for a time so I went on a really stupid diet. I was only eating, like, half an apple a day. I got sick and depressed.”

This landed her in the hospital, and when she came out, she was not eating as much anymore.

Crash diets are bad, she cautioned, though admitting “I still do it once in a while, because in this industry, we have deadlines. I might have to look a certain way for a photo shoot where I have one month to prepare.”

She used to go on a 10day Lemon cleanse too but these days limits it to three. “If you eat properly every day, you will be fine, there’s no need to go on a yo-yo diet,” she advised.

Her showbiz lifestyle makes it a little hard for Solenn to eat healthy, as some- times, to combat stress and sleepiness, she indulges on snacks like chips.

Another thing that causes her stress are online bashers. “People look up to models and actresses who are, by the way, very done up and photoshopped. They compare you to magazines and say things like, ‘oh she looks different’ or even ‘her kilikili is dark,’” she sighed.

Still, she manages to rise above these things and stay positive, especially when it comes to health. You can read all about it in her book “Hot Sos” which gives practical ways for beginners to get their workout fix and their diet on track. Last Friday, Solenn’s manager sent Bulletin Entertainment a copy of the results of Solenn’s recent drug test. “One of GMA Network’s stars, Solenn Heussaff has tested negative for illegal drugs. Leo Dominguez, the talent manager of the Filipina-French actress-model, has decided to publicize her results in support of the Government’s stand and campaign against illegal use of prohibited drugs. This is also to inform the public of Solenn’s beliefs of clean and healthy living,” the statement read. Dominguez added that “Solenn practices what she believes in, which is to live a healthy and productive lifestyle, this includes her position against the use of prohibited and illegal drugs.” With the statement are the laboratory results from Hi-Precision Diagnostics Plus in Poblacion City of Makati, a medical laboratory licensed by the Department of Health.
