HIMS sees $5-billion revenue in 2022
To double jobs to 210,000
Healthcare information management services (HIMS), a niche sector in the country’s booming business process outsourcing industry, aims to triple its revenues to over $5 billion and double its employment to 210,000 by 2022.
Beng Coronel, president of the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP), said the growth goal will more than double its current employment at 100,000 and triple its 2015 revenues of $1.9 billion.
“This is a conservative growth in revenue forecasted at 250 percent from $1.9 billion in 2015 and these figures were shown during last year’s conference,” according to Coronel.
The HIMAP growth forecast will serve as key component in the crafting of the IT-BPM (business process management) Roadmap 2022.
Coronel said the Philippine HIMS industry has seen remarkable progress since 2011, as service providers demonstrated a growing capability for offering more complex work.
The industry has diversified from medical transcription into medical billing, medical coding, and outpatient care services, among others. HIMS also includes telemedicine, pharmaceutical and healthcare application support (clinical and non-clinical).
As the industry continues to grow, Coronel said, it is expected to offer a wider array of career opportunities for healthcare professionals — including the thousands of nurses who are part of the emerging oversupply in the country.
Coronel said that to further promote this BPO sector, HIMS will hold a conference and exhibition on September 15 on the theme: “Global Convergence Enabling Inclusive Care and Innovation”.
The conference will discuss stakeholder roles in healthcare and how some trends disrupt the growth and innovation in healthcare industry, said Coronel.
It will also look back at the achievements of the industry and looks forward to opportunities for sustained growth.
“It will feature presentations and briefings by industry and domain experts; panel discussions with top industry executives from around the region and with respected and influential resource persons,” she said.
Coronel added that the conference will be expanded to include tracks for business, technology, and talent executives and a new framework will be provided to participants with a breadth and depth of knowledge on topics with principles drawn from different disciplines.
