Cloudy skies and light rains seen during cemetery visits

- By ELLALYN B. DE VERA

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over Visayas, Mindanao and the province of Palawan while cloudy skies and isolated rainshowers will prevail

over Metro Manila between today and November 2 – the holidays reserved for the dead.

Cloudy skies with light rains are also expected over the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela and Ilocos Norte, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

In November, PAGASA said one to three tropical cyclones may enter or affect the country’s area of responsibility. As the northeast monsoon is expected to set in soon, generally near average temperature may occur in the coming month.

From November all the way to January 2017, PAGASA said generally near to above normal rainfall conditions are likely that may potentially trigger floods and landslides over vulnerable areas and storm surges at coastal communities.

Sea surface temperatures over the Pacific Ocean have reached “borderline” La Niña levels in October, indicating a looming La Niña occurrence by December-February, according to state weather forecasters.

PAGASA cited that most global climate models suggested either neutral, which is neither La Niña nor El Niño, or borderline La Niña to persist until February, 2017.

During La Nina conditions, major parts of the country experience near to above normal rainfall conditions particularly over the eastern sections.

PAGASA said cold surges may start to occur in December and about one to two tropical cyclones may occur during this month.

By February to March, 2017, the weather bureau noted that generally below to near normal rainfall over most parts of Luzon, and near to above normal rainfall in the Visayas and Mindanao will likely occur.

Meanwhile, by April, 2017, generally below normal rainfall with some patches of near normal rainfall is expected over Mindanao.
