San Miguel keeps 5-point advantage

BAGUIO CITY — San MiguelNort­hern Cement refused to blink in the face of Manila Southwoods’ determined challenge, matching its 108point production Wednesday to retain its five-point lead heading into the final round of the premier Seniors FilChampio­nshipof the Fil-Am Invitation­al Golf Tournament presented by San Miguel.

Jingky Tuason provided the early inspiratio­n to his teammates by firing 28 points while Eddie Bagtas was as steady as Bong Sison as the duo carded similar 27 and Chito Laureta had a 26 as the defending champion tallied a three-day total of 373.

Edmund Yee paced anew the parbusters from Carmona, Cavite with 31 points for a 368 aggregate.

Yee got solid backing from Kui Sun Moon and Raul Minoza who both had 28 points while Chang Duk Jung could do no better than a 25.

Southwoods needs to work extra hard if it is going to regain the title it last won in 2012.

Meantime, Megafiber quietly jumped to third by registerin­g 112 points for 363 points – thanks to a pair of 29 from Rolly Viray and Ben Jacinto.

Two other Megafiber players also did well with Jose Mari Hechanova and Rene Unson carding 27 points.

Pugo Adventures, the 2014 champion, had the day’s best round of 116but failed to gain ground on the frontrunne­rs after a so-so showing in the first two rounds.
